Sunday 25th November - Western Area Teams

New Star Players Boost Bristol to Victory!
Two teams from Bristol entered the annual South West Region Teams event,
for the second year running hosted by Bristol County Judo, and held at City
Academy School. Teams entered from Devon, Dorset, Gloucester & Somerset.
The Bristol 8 to 12 year team won GOLD, despite only having 6 players
in a seven man team. The final was against Gloucester. Bristol had narrowly beaten
them in the rounds, so all the players knew what they needed to do, but
Gloucester also knew what Bristol could do!
With one player to go it was even, so it was all up to our own 8 year old
Ben; with seconds to go Ben won with a text book hold down! Bristol took the
gold medal and trophy for the 3rd year running! Four out of the six player
team were New Star players! Cameron, Myles, Tom & Ben. The oldest player
in the under 12 team was Myles, he is only 10!
With a new rule change the 12 year old to 16 year old team were three
players short of an eleven player team. despite this they came a comfortable
third, bringing home bronze medals. Everyone look out when our younger players
join them! Dominic, Sam & Jack D from New Star were three of the 8 player
Bristol under 12 girls had won the Gold last year and the over 12 girls had
won silver last year; sadly there were not enough girls in Bristol to field a
girls team. Our own Mollie was the only girl for the under 12 team! But with
all our red and yellow belt girls from New Star coming through, she won't be on
her own next year!
We also need a few more under 12 boys to strive ahead like Kieran and Reece
to find 3 more players for the under 12 orange belt and above team!
A special mention to Finley and Mollie who came to support, it was much
appreciated by the teams. Thank you to the parents who helped with the mats
and jobs on the day!
